Welcome to The First 12 Weeks of Your Translation Career

And we mean that in both senses. Welcome to the course, but more importantly, welcome to what will – we hope – be your amazing adventure in the world of translation! It’s an exciting world, but also a challenging one, and that’s why we’ve put this course together with contributions from our amazing guests to help you find your footing.

As the name implies, there are 12 instalments, released on a weekly basis. Each one includes an introduction recorded by one of our contributors, a short piece of text for you to read, and crucially, a task for you to complete. Don’t be intimidated by these tasks – there aren’t any right or wrong answers. They’re here to help you reflect on what you’ve just listened to and to provide a structured way for you to put those ideas into practice. Above all, their purpose is to put you in a stronger position by the end of the week than when you started.

We hope that this combination of theoretical ideas and practical tasks will build up your confidence and help you identify a path forward for your career and business. But in the end, it’s up to you – there is no one “right” way to be a translator. There are, however, a few key principles that are common across our profession. And these are what we hope to communicate to you.
